Title: Tourism, Animals and Me: the road to Hólar
Presenter: Dr Georgette Leah Burns
Abstract: My work on tourism, as an anthropologist in an environmental science faculty, enabled me to follow my passion for understanding relationships between people, tourism and animals. In this seminar I will tell you something about my fieldwork in Nepal, Fiji and Australia with dingoes, penguins … and now seals. It is a journey that brought me to Iceland to work at Hólarand at the Icelandic Seal Center. In explaining something about myself and my research I hope to convey an understanding how I have been thinking about wildlife tourism. This will include discussion of the types of research methods I have used and my recent theoretical exploration into the world of environmental ethics.
